Platelet-Rich fibrin (PRF)
Platelet-Rich fibrin (PRF), an autologous (the patient’s own blood)-derived biomaterial, is increasingly being utilized by clinicians as an adjunctive biomaterial to promote bone and soft tissue regeneration and healing. PRF can be utilized in a solid (membrane or plug) or as a liquid.
PRF can be utilized in a solid (membrane or plug) or as a liquid.
Benefits include:
● It is made from the patient’s own blood - only venepuncture required
● It is easy to prepare
● It can be produced within minutes
● It is a cost effective material
● Wide area of application
● Growth factors are released at a steady rate
The membrane and plug form is most commonly used and speeds up recovery of a surgical site. The membrane is also used in areas such as GBR (Guided Bone Regeneration) or to bulk up soft tissue in the aesthetic zines of the oral cavity (like during dental implants or periodontal procedures).
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
This is used less often than PRF, but commonly utilized during surgeries requiring regeneration and allowing for a fluid of low viscosity to be present. This is most often TMJoint surgeries (in the case of Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgery work). It is also used to mix with other grafting materials. This technique is also utilized for facial aesthetic regenerative procedures.

Dr Coelette makes use of both PRP and PRF to maximize her patients recovery and outcome.
